What Were Some Of Your Pregnancy Cravings?

Q. My friend has been having some really weird pregnancy cravings eg. smoked oysters, sushi, mango gelato and cherry ripes :P What are or were some of your cravings if you had them?

A. At first it was fruit. The more sweet it was the better. Then it was pb&j sandwiches. I could eat them breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday. Now that winter has hit, ironically, its slurpies. The other night i woke up around 2am wanting one sooo bad that i whipped out my blender and tried making one with ice, sugar, and a kool-aid packet since the gas station was closed lol.

Am I the only one who has normal pregnancy cravings?
Q. I know people who have outrageous pregnancy cravings like pickles and ice cream, matches, clay and junk like that (my aunt actually ATE some of that whack stuff cuz she had a deficiency!) But my cravings are healthy like raspberries, fruits and vegetables, low on meat, but cheese and yogurt are great...anyone else ahve normal cravings?

A. Mine have all thankfully been food cravings. With my first pregnancy I couldn't get enough fruit smoothies. Never really fancied them before getting pregnant, but I ended up buying a Magic Bullet because I would have at least one per day. When you crave something like fruit, why fight it, right?

With my second pregnancy, my cravings haven't all been so healthy. I'm craving fruit again - this time it's mostly raspberries and blueberries which I'll buy frozen and not even wait for them to thaw completely before eating, jelly beans, and the occasional chocolate (I generally don't crave chocolate so it's a bit weird for me!). I've also craved cinnamon raisin bread and can go through a loaf on my own in less than a week if I'm not careful!

How were your pregnancy cravings?
Q. I usually crave what's already in my fridge & not something I make up in my head. I feel like I'm making myself "crave" lol
How were your pregnancy cravings?

A. I will crave pretty much every food I hear about. Like last night somebody in my house mentioned milkshakes and I thought I was going to die if i didn't have a mcdonalds chocolate milkshake.

why do pregnant women have cravings and why are they so satisifying?
Q. Last night she was craving a cheeseburger and I went out and got her one and she was so happy like her face lit up. Before I went out and got it she was very edgy but when she finally got to eat it its like she went into immediate relaxation. What's the deal with pregnancy cravings?

How did you hide your pregnancy from your friends?

Q. I may be pregnant (too soon to tell) but I don't want to let my parents know and excite them too early. Meanwhile I don't want to drink alcohol (which I generally do) or eat raw fish (sushi is my favorite food!). I hang out with my friends/family a lot during meals and they will pick up on this fast, any suggestions for good excuses?

A. Hi there,

I am not a sushi eater, but I am a drinker and I have some tricks to hide the pregnancy. If you go out to a restaurant secretly talk to the waiter and request that he pour your non-alcoholic beer in a glass so the bottle is not on the table and people will just think you got a draft. If you have people over, you can use the same trick or make a fruity drink with alcohol in it. Then poor yours with just the juices into a martini or wine glass. Those are my tricks.

Good luck!

Is it okay to go back to sushi and rare meats while breastfeeding?
Q. I know they are big no-no's during pregnancy...I just really like these foods and am now breastfeeding. I would think that it is still probably not a good idea being that the baby is still getting the good and bad bacteria from your body...just wondering if other mothers were worried about this also. Thanks for looking! :)

A. Breastfeeding protects them from the bad bacteria. It shouldn't pose any problems i.e. transferring to breastmilk. (unless baby is allergic such as moms who have had to use elimination diet to find out what their kids were allergic to - my poor friend has a child allergic to milk products (not lactose intolerant- allergic) and couldn't eat dairy the whole time she nursed! No ice cream, cheese, yogurt or sour cream-the horror!).

Here is a good answer:

What are good foods for you to eat during pregnancy and not so good foods?
Q. I'm in my parenting class, and we're supposed to search foods not to eat and foods to eat during pregnancy, any advice?:)

A. Soft cheeses because of the risk of listeriosis (mozzarella, feta, bleu cheese, brie, etc.) unless they are heated to melting; deli meats unless heated until steaming (for the same reason as the cheeses); liver/pate because it is too high in Vitamin A; bacon and hot dogs because they are too high in nitrates; some fish (like shark and swordfish) because they are too high in mercury; raw or undercooked meats and raw or undercooked eggs because of multiple types of bacteria (raw eggs pop up in strange places, like eggnog, so check the ingredient lists); coffee/soda/caffeinated teas because of the caffeine (one cup a day is usually okay); anything made with unpasteurized milk (anything made with Grade A milk IS pasteurized, by the way); unwashed vegetables or fruits; uncooked foods like sushi or smoked meats; alcohol; herbs (small amounts used in cooking are OK); and some say peanuts because of the allergy risk, but that's still controversial.

Is it really that bad to eat deli meat during pregnancy?
Q. I haven't touched it, but I love sandwiches and deli meat! I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this? Is it as bad as sushi? Thanks!

A. No, it is not as bad as they say. I ate deli turkey almost everyday with my son, and he is fine. I also enjoyed sushi with this pregnancy, as well as blue cheese, deli meat, and a glass of wine a few weeks ago.

Don't worry, and go have that turkey sandwich!

Molar pregnancy suspected after early miscarriage?

Q. I had a miscarriage when I was about 6 weeks along. Now, one month later, they are suspecting a molar pregnancy due to bleeding and increasing hcg levels.
The info that I have seen on the internet mostly deals with molar pregnancies that are 3-5 months along. I was wondering if anyone had one diagnosed this early, and what they went through.

A. I had mine when I was 3 months, but what they saw was grape like clusters on the ultrasounds and my HCG levels were extremely high. The important thing in any molar pregnancy is that you have a D&C (which your doctor will have you do anyways) and to be monitored for 6 months to a year after as molar pregnancies can (but dont always) lead to cancer. I was followed for 1 year after my molar pregnancy and was perfectly healthy. Good luck, I hope you dont have this as it can be very scary!

what questions should I be asking my dr about molar pregnancy?
Q. Is there things I should be doing or asking the dr about the molar pregnancy? is there somthing I should be doing that will lower my hcg level faster? Should I go have chest x-rays?

A. Is it a complete or incomplete mole? That means was it diploid (with the normal number of chromosomes-2, one from each parent) or triploid (three sets of chromosomes-one from mom, two from dad). With that answer should come some information about how likely it is to need long term monitoring.

One in a thousand pregnancies are molar pregnancies, some are blighted ova. Your physician will want to do sequential hCG levels at least until they get to normal, which should happen in about 2-3 weeks. Chest xrays are very safe as the amount of radiation you receive is very low, since the film is so sensitive.

I had one about 11 years ago, and had my daughter eight years ago. It is discouraging and disconcerting, but one day this too will be in your past, and you can advise others of your previous condition, and hopefully offer reassurance.

Best wishes.

What were your HCG levels when you had a molar pregnancy?
Q. There is a small chance that my dates weren't calculated correctly... but I believe I'm at 4 weeks (since last period) with a 4000 hcg... which is very very high. I'm obviously worried it's a molar pregnancy. Have you ever had a molar pregnancy? If so, what were your levels early on in pregnancy?
Thanks in advance. I have an ultrasound scheduled for this evening but I'm just trying to get through today. :(

A. I have had a molar pregnancy but i never knew what my levels were.

I had gone for my 12 weeks scan and they told me my baby had died at 6 weeks 6 days. i then ended up having a d&c and thats how they found out i had a molar pregnancy.

If they were worried about the levels they would have said something.

i wouldnt worry about molar pregnancy to much, it aint a common thing atall.

Just try and chill out and enjoy your pregnancy x

does methotrexate cause fertility issues or other complications after molar pregnancy?
Q. It's been 5 years since and I've had a daughter and adopted a son.

does methotrexate cause fertility issues or other complications

Also I've developed Lupus like symptoms (joint pain, photosensitivity, pos ANA, Nephritis, mouth sores)
Can this be caused by a molar pregnancy ot metotrexate?

A. The Lupus type symptoms could be coming from the Methotrexate, but I would recommend getting in touch with your rheumatologist as well to see what they say, and also I would recommend checking with your pharmacist and OB/GYN to see what they say about the potential for infertility with this medication.

Which of the following statements is true concerning the mammary glands of both males and females?
Q. a.) Both sexes are equally prone to breast cancer
b.) All lumps identified in breast tissue are malignant.
c.) The only time hormones target breast tissue is during pregnancy and lactation.
d.) The mammary glands are modified sweat glands that are actually part of the integumentary system.

A. D) is correct. It is considered a modified sweat gland.

Women are more prone to breast cancer, but men can still get it.

Lumps in breast tissue can be anything from a plugged milk duct to cancer, so B is false.

C is wrong too because you also have hormonal influence on breast tissue in men who abuse steroids and take hormone injections, during menstruation, menopause, etc. etc.

Is it possible to still have menstruation within or during the first two weeks of pregnancy?
Q. I was wondering if it's possible to still have menstruation within or during the first two weeks or even within the first month of pregnancy and if there has been similar cases, however remotely they are.

A. One of my friends had her Period for the first 3 months of her period!

what is the cervical postion when early in pregnancy?
Q. I know its low and firm while menstrating and before menstration...but what about during EARLY pregnancy?....I can't find it in my taking charge of your fertility book......any ideas?
well I didn't ask if its a clue to pregnancy.....I asked what position is it during early pregnancy.

A. Right after ovulation the cervix returns to the dryer, lower, closed state you noticed after menstruation.

During early pregnancy, the cervix becomes closed and blue in color. Cervical mucus also tends to change during this stage of your cycle, so the cervical mucus would begin increasing due to hormonal fluctuation and blood flow to the uterus.
During pregnancy, the cervix will rise a bit and become softer, but the timing of this happening will vary from woman to woman...

How many ways can genital herpes be spread?

Q. I am 25 and have genital herpes. I live with others in my household and am worried that they may contract the disease by using the same toilet facility. Is there any other way to get it other than sexual contact? How long does the virus live on surfaces like a toilet seat or things other than genitalia? Should I be worried about my family and housemates getting it from me, even though we do not have sexual contact? If possible please state your source and if you are from a medical background. Please be serious, I really need help and answers. Thanks!

A. Both herpes simplex virus-1 and virus-2 may be transmitted through sex, or by kissing or touching any affected area. A condom can prevent herpes transmission during vaginal or anal sex, but oral contact with genitals or open sores anywhere can spread the disease. Washing hands can also minimize transmission.
Please note that if herpes simplex virus is spread to the eyes, it is highly dangerous. Virus STDs can not be cured. During pregnancy, girls with active herpes infection have to undergo ceasarian operation to avoid herpetic infection to the child.

How can I make a false pregnancy test?
Q. My best friend is being very careless recently...I would really like to give her a good pregnancy scare so that maybe she will think about what she's doing. How would I falsify a pregnancy test so that I could maybe switch the tests (only if it's negative, obviously) so that she will be fooled?

A. Why don't you show her medical pictures of the damage that STDs will do, a good dose of vaginal warts, lesions, weeping wounds, mouth thrush and sarcoma of the skin from aids and a good herpes outbreak will cure her habit of not using protection!Unlike pregnancy Herpes and HIV is for ever.

Do you think once people start getting vaccinated for HIV and Herpes they will have more unsafe sex?
Q. Since those are the 2 major chronic diseases that scare people into using condoms....along with pregnancy. Most other STDs can be cured with some antibiotics. What do you think?

A. NO COS YOU ARE WRONG CONDOMS DO NOT PROTECT YOU FROM HERPES HPV OR CRABS

Is it dangerous to get your first cold sore during pregnancy? Does it harm the fetus?

is it normal for the cervix to change positions during pregnancy?
Q. Is it normal for it to be lower sometimes than really high up other times? Just a question of curiousity. I know before pregnancy, your cervix changes positions all day, is this the same during pregnancy?

A. YES...very normal! Mine was down very low and kind of hard-ish..until like 6 or so weeks ago...now it is SO high and VERY soft, i can hardly even touch it! (Im 27 weeks now) So it soften and went high around 20-21 weeks..

Take care honey <3

What happens to sperm during pregnancy?
Q. I know that the cervix closes up during pregnancy, but does that mean that when you have sex during pregnancy that absolutely no semen/sperm enters the uterus? It all spills back out after sex?

I'm asking because I'm pregnant and after we have sex copious amounts of fluid left my vaginal canal. (sorry if tmi) I don't know if I should accredit this to excess discharge or his sperm having no other place to go.

A. probably excess disharge mixed with sperm.

How to feel for your cervix during the first few weeks of pregnancy?
Q. how would u feel for where your cervix is during the first few weeks of pregnancy? theres a possibility i might be pregnant,so i wanted to see if i could tell i am by seeing where my cervix is

A. Your cervix is slit deeper than you think it is.

When you have a pap smear doctors use equipment and long swabs.

You can also cause some damage by prodding around with it so just take a wee test they are pretty accurate.

Do all dogs going through heat have false pregnancies?

Q. My 11 month dog is going through her first heat. I have heard about false pregnancies and I am wondering if she will for sure go through a false pregnancy after her heat is over. What is the likelihood of this happening?
EDIT: I am not asking if she is having a false pregnancy. I want to know what are the chances of her having a false pregnancy. Like is a 50/50 thing? Or is it something that happens once in a while to dogs.

A. Well obviously all entire bitches will have a season - right to the end of their lives. False pregnancy however is comparatively rare, so I'd suggest far more bitches won't go into this after being in season - and it's certainly nothing like a 50% likelihood.

Get her spayed - in another 2 months time and then you won't have to stress about this possibility. Incidentally if she should, it's quite distressing for the b itch, and by far the kindest thing IS to spay her should that happen. I'd suggest you should be more concerned about whether she might develop mammary, or uterine cancer later on if you don't get her spayed, than about a false pregnancy (or come to that, a true pregnancy because bitches in standing heat will be as eager to find a mate, as any roaming dog will be to find her).

Is it possible for an 18 year old to experience false pregnancy?
Q. I am paranoid all the time that i'm pregnant and in the end i'm not. Here I am back again thinking i'm pregnant even after i had my period because i'm feeling pain in my sides and breast tenderness. Am I really pregnant or is it just false pregnancy?
It's almost been a week since my period ended. These pains started two days after it ended. So what's up?

A. That's not false pregnancy.....and if you had your period you are not pregnant.

Read some books or search the Internet..get some more knowlege about the subject.

How to stop my female yorkie from lactating during a false pregnancy??
Q. I have a 3 year old female yorkie...she has recently came in to heat and now she has a false pregnancy. She has not been within contact with a male dog so she can't be pregnant. Here mammary glands are swollen and she has begun to leak milk from them. Is there anything I can do or anything to give her OTC for her to stop lactating?? I am taking her in November to get spayed. PLEASE HELP!!!

A. I have had chihuahuas go thru this as well. They usually dry up on their own within a couple of weeks. You will probably see her "mothering" a stuffed animal or blanket or something of that sort. They get kind of depressed too and need lots of extra loving during this time. You could ask the vet about something to help stop the milk, but like I said it usually tajes care of it by itself within a week or 2. You could call the local shelter and ask if they have abandoned kittens or small pups that need a foster mom. One of my chihuahuas fostered 6 pups when she had a false pregnancy.

what is the difference between cat pregnancy and false pregnancy?
Q. I am not sure if my cat is pregnant or not. She has most of the signs of cat pregnancy, but I am not sure if it is false pregnancy or not. What is the differences between the two?

A. It's very difficult to tell, they are pretty much the same. Get your cat spayed and you won't have to worry about it.

How do you know when you lose your mucus plug?

Q. I am 34.4 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy and I was wondering, how do you know when you lose your mucus plug? What is it or what does it look like?

A. it was almost looked like spotting and some of it seemed like a clear discharge with pink. u will know when u lose it when u feel "wet" like as if u had a lot of discharge come out. the mucous plug is a small amount of fluid that seals the cervix (opening of ur uterus).

Can your mucus plug have a brown tint to it?
Q. I'm not sure if it was my mucus plug or not, but I just went to the bathroom and notice a some what large snot like discharge on my underwear. When I wiped it off it had a brown tint to it. With my first pregnancy my mucus plug was more clear with a slight blood streak in it. So I'm not sure if this too is my mucus plug or just normal discharge.

Thanks ladies for your answers.

A. My mucus plug with my first had brown in it --- especially if I had just recently had a cervical exam or had sex. Brown is just old blood.

This pregnancy my mucus plug hasn't had any tint to it --- just yellowish/clearish mucus.

It can range anywhere from clear to yellow ... and with small amounts of pink, red or brown blood in it ... or none at all.

Can somebody explain,if mucus plug is broken can be seen by ultrasound?
Q. If the mucus plug is broken early in pregnancy can be detected by abdominal ultrasound, can be seen there or it can be seen by another way?
If you walk to much can mucus plug be broken?

A. It Can't Be 'Broken' But 'Lost'.
It Cannot Be Seen By Ultrasound But You Can Have An Examination By Your Midwife Or Doctor To See If You Have Lost It.

Has anyone heard of a pregnancy rash?
Q. I woke up with a rash on Saturday. I am 9 weeks pregnant my skins isn't really sensitive and I don't have any skin allergies that I know of. Some bumps look like I went to bed with a mosquito and the rest is a fine rash. It is on my torso only not on my extremities or face. I called my OB she told me to put benadryl on it and I did it isn't better so I am seeing the doctor tomorrow. I heard that some women get a pregnancy rash. Has anyone heard of it?

A. I don't know if there's actually such a thing as a pregnancy rash, but I do know that while you're pregnant your skin tends to be a lot more sensitive even if it wasn't before. When I was pregnant with my first child I switched to a cheaper brand of laundry soap - BIG MISTAKE - my legs broke out all over!! You might take a look at the skin products (and products that come in contact with your skin like laundry soap) your using and try switching to something for sensitive skin until the pregnancy is over. Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you!

Anyone else ever get a rash on there belly?

is there such a thing as a pregnancy rash?
Q. i am 14 weeks pregnant and i have a question... is there such a thing a s a pregnancy rash? I have a rash that looks like a heat rash only on the top half of my body. i just noticed it when i looked in the mirror and now probably because i am thinking about it i am really itchy.. i haven't changed soaps or anything... what could this be?

A. You may think that only babies get prickly heat rash, but pregnant women do, too. Caused by the combination of an already overheated pregnant body, dampness from excessive perspiration, and the friction of skin rubbing against itself or against clothing, prickly heat rash is pimply and slightly irritating. It is most common in the crease between and beneath the breasts, in the crease where the bulge of the lower abdomen rubs against the top of the pubic area, and on the inner thighs.

Many women enjoy a good "scratch down" at the end of the day. Some areas of your skin may itch because they are dry and flaky, others may itch because of a prickly rash, as mentioned above. Many women find the itching is most bothersome in the skin that stretches, mainly over the abdomen, but also on hips and thighs.

What are the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy?

Q. What are the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy? Would you feel the pains early on like before missed period? How severe are the pains and are they only felt on one side?

A. I had an ectopic 2 years ago. symptoms are should pain, pain concentrated on one side, and cramping. You may have only one or you may have them all. If you think it is ectopic you need to see a doctor right away. if your tube bursts you could die from internal bleeding. Personally I had no symptoms until the end where I started bleeding and my doctor thought I was just having a miscarriage. He scheduled me for a d&c and laporscopy and on the day of my surgery my tube started to burst. I had no pain or symptoms only that I started to have signs of a miscarriage. Please be safe and see a doctor. It is not worth the chance. Also, having an ectopic does not ruin your chances of ever conceiving a healthy baby so don't be discouraged if it happens. Like I said I had an ectopic 2 years ago and I am pregnant with a healthy baby now. We are 19 weeks pregnant. It may take longer but the reward is so worth the wait and I would not change anything!

How do you know if your having an ectopic pregnancy?
Q. how do you know if your having an ectopic pregnancy if you have a negative pregnancy test but you miss your period and have been nauseous, vomiting, and pain on one side of your lower abdomen.

A. There are at least three reasons I can think of off the top of my head.
Ectopic pregnancy
Appendicitis if on right side
Ovarian cyst

The best thing for you to do is to go to the doctor and get checked out. Ectopic pregnancies are dangerous, but many of them miscarry without help, and you'd have to be several weeks into pregnancy for one to rupture, aka, life-threatening. You will need to get it removed if it's found, either via medication or surgery.

I've had appendicitis, and the symptoms for that tend to get worse over time, and don't let up. If you have pain that gets worse over time, you have some cause for concern. This can be appendicitis, cyst, ectopic preg, etc.

Ovarian cysts... I've had a few. They suck; most of them are benign. Most of them either resolve within 1-3 months, or you have a doctor remove them due to health risks, or they burst. Which has some risks, but honestly, it's not terribly life-threatening, as long as you're not showing signs of infection. It just hurts like a bear. You will want to get them looked at, and track them, and REST when you feel in pain (it will get worse if you don't), but they're generally not a huge deal if you know what's going on with them. You may need surgery to remove them, as there are risks to your ovary and your innards in general. Laparoscopy is better than the traditional surgery, btw, for any of these procedures.

Good luck. Get it checked out, but until you have cause to worry, don't. Relaxing makes it better.

Will nipples get larger and darker in an ectopic pregnancy?
Q. I have been paranoid my pregnancy is Ectopic, but my nipples have gotten darker and larger over the last few days. Is this a good sign or will that happen in an Ectopic pregnancy as well?

A. Why do you think your having an ectopic pregnancy? Anyway if you were you would get all the normal symptoms but a lot of pain in one side of the abdomen, usually it has to be removed as soon as it's discovered. But yes your nipples would get as dark and as large as if you had a healthy pregnancy.

How many weeks were you, when you found out you had an ectopic pregnancy?
Q. I had an ectopic pregnancy last year in February, I had to have one of tubes removed. I finally got a positive test, im about 6 weeks pregnant. Im just hoping its not another ectopic!!! Would I be feeling any pains by now???? I dont remember how far along I was when I had the surgery.

A. I experienced an ectopic February 2008 also-here's my experience:

On Feb 12th (at 5 weeks) I started with mild cramps and brown spotting. It went away for 2 days. On Feb 14th I had menstrual-style cramps and moderate red bleeding. They drew blood and my HcG was really low (81) and I was told that I was miscarrying. They monitored my HcG and it continued to rise, but not double. My bleeding stopped after about 4 days. I was hopeful that maybe they were wrong and I wasn't miscarrying.

On Feb 21, they did an sonogram and saw nothing in my uterus or tubes.

A few days later (Feb 24) the bleeding started again. The emergency room told me I was at the end of a miscarriage. My HcG was at 650.After a sonogram, they said my uterus was empty, not knowing much I went home. They missed something big.

Within 2 days of my first ER visit (Feb 26) I went to the ER again with SEVERE cramping on my left side. UNBEARABLE pain!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't emphasize that enough-it was the worst paine ever. My pregnancy always felt normal, then bleeding/cramping, then the stabbing pain. All in progression. My HcG was at 857 the day it ruptured. They did a sonogram and I was rushed into emergency surgery for an ectopic rupture.

If the HcG is rising and doubling every 2-3 days, that is a GREAT sign!

If it is dropping, you are most likely miscarrying.

If it is rising, but NOT doubling every 2-3 days, you most likely are ectopic.

HOPEFULLY everything is fine. Red blood will be a bad sign.

I was about 6 1/2 weeks when mine was discovered...I think the range is 5-8 weeks.

I wish you luck.

am i pregnant even if the blood test was positive?

Q. I had two positive urine tests and one positive blood test.
But is there a chance it may be a hysterical pregnancy?

A. blood tests are always right you are pregnant

If a person claims to be pregnant more than 42 weeks and shows all of the physical signs,?
Q. would this be considered a hysterical pregnancy, which would ultimately mean mental issues? Correct?

A. She could be 42 weeks pregnant. It's possible her due date was off a bit and she really is only 40 weeks. I had an induction of a Somali woman last week who had been refusing induction and was known 100% to be 43w 3d.

If she doesn't deliver in the next 2 weeks though I would start becoming suspicious.

So im not pregnant, how do i get rid of the symptoms?
Q. Alright, so everyone is telling me that i have a phantom (hysterical) pregnancy. and without a positive result i guess that's all i have to go with. So does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of the symptoms and get my period back going? would prefer someone who has gone through the same thing. thanks

if your curious about more details as in my symptoms check out my previous posts.
Oooohhhh, relaaaxxxx! why didn't i think of that..... : /

I have most of the symptoms of being pregnant but my test came back negative? what does this mean?
Q. Ive been wanting to get pregnant for a while. my boyfriend and i have been doing everything right. I've got tender brests, my tastes for food are changing, i eat a lot more. i pee a lot more. ive thrown up a couple times but not in the morning. and my test said negative. am i having a hysterical pregnancy?

A. Those are all the symptoms for pregnancy BUT it might be sphycological. That happened to me. I have been trying to get pregnant and at some point I wanted to be pregnant so bad that it was all I thought about. I then started having pregnancy symptoms, everything you can think of. I threw up, had headaches, was bloated and so on. My husband and I were convince that I was because it had never happened before. But like I said, it was all sphycological. My period showed up 5 days late. And when I googled the situation, I seen that the exact same thing happens to women everywhere. You have to relax and just wait for your period to show up or not. I know it is extremely hard, but just try to keep your mind busy. Everytime a ttc thought comes up, distract your mind. I hope you get the results you want because the other possibility is that you are pregnant but there just isnt enough hcg in your system for a pregnancy test to pick up. Good Luck hun. Baby dust

How long does it take to detect vaginal herpes?

Q. I have had through out the years vaginal lesions. I didn't think they were vaginal warts because there was not a wart bump, but more like a open sore. I as the doctor a year ago if I could have herpes and she said I had to come in when I had an outbreak. Now I am pregnant and my doctor says I have herpes and will need cream to put on during the birth so my child wont get it. I have a son 5 years ago and the doctor never said anything about herpes to me then. Is the blood test for herpes a new test? Would it have been detected 5 years ago if I had it then?

A. You have to have a blood test done during an OUTBREAK, because the antibodies are in your system, trying to fight off the herpes virus. That is the only time it will show up in a test. If you didn't know you had herpes 5 years ago, then your doctor would not have known. Like I said, unless you told the doctor, or there was an outbreak (something for your doctor to see and TEST), then he would not have known. As for your current pregnancy, you need to be put on Valtrex (yes, it is safe), because if you have an outbreak and then have a vaginal birth, the baby will be exposed with potentially life threatening consequences. If you have an outbreak despite Valtrex when it is time to deliver your baby, your doctor will need to perform a c-section, NOT administer a "cream". This is serious business and it concerns me that your doctor is talking about creams and not putting you on medication.

What happens if you contract herpes when you conceive?
Q. If you get herpes and get pregnant in the same sexual encounter, what happens to the baby? Will it get herpes from being inside the uterus? or is herpes only spread to a baby during delivery?

A. If you contract herpes just before you got pregnant then herpes can cause some complications to the pregnancy. But herpes isn't usually passed while the baby is in the womb or by genetics. The risk occurs as the baby comes through the birth canal while the mother has a break out. If the mother has a genital break out while she delivers, there is a high risk of passing herpes to the baby as it comes through the birth canal.
Doctors usually prescribe antiviral medication a few weeks before you deliver to help prevent break outs so you can deliver naturally with very low risk of passing herpes to the baby. Herpes is very rarely passed to babies.

What happens if you have a herpes outbreak during pregnancy?
Q. What happens if you have a herpes outbreak during your pregnany? I am 26 weeks pregnant and had an outbreak. I had my first outbreak a couple months before I became pregnant. Is there any risks in getting an outbreak during pregnancy? And is it ok to take valtrex? My doctor told me to take 3 grams a day. Just looking for other people's experience on this.
Yes, it was my dear husband who gave it to me, but he only has the oral kind, I have the *other* kind.

A. it is fine to have an outbreak during pregnancy as long as you dont have one within a month of giving birth. then its too risky to pass on to the baby. you say that you husband has oral herpes and you have the "other" kind. you really probably both have the same strain, but oral herpes can pass to the genitals through oral sex and genital can pass to oral. but really, the strains are different. you likely have the same strain that your husband has on his month, just in a different area. that is a good thing, it is a milder strain and your outbreaks will occur less often and come even less often and be more mild as time passes.

With genital herpes, how can a man give his wife a baby without giving her herpes?
Q. I know herpes is spread when you have no signs as well as with signs.. but my question is, what methods can be used for couples with one partner infected ?
And if the 2nd partner later discovers she too has herpes, is unprotected sex ok or should precautions still be taken?

A. Wow. The amount of misinformation in these answers is stunning.

To start, herpes is spread through skin-to-skin contact. So his semen will NOT contain the virus.

Second, as long as the couple does not have intercourse when he has symptoms, the likelihood of transmitting the virus is not huge. It's not tiny, but it's not huge. If he takes an antiviral, like Valtrex, the percentage drops even more. A study of partners where one had herpes and the other did not showed a 2% transmission rate per year without Valtex, and less than 1% with Valtex.

Third, even if she did get herpes, she could still have a healthy baby. She might choose to have a cesearean to prevent transmission to the baby, but there are no horrible medical consequences if he gives her herpes. There is no reason to go for artificial insemination, for pete's sake!

Life is risk. And in my opinion, the risk of possibly giving her herpes is so GREATLY outweighed by the desire to have a baby that it isn't even a contest.

For more information on pregnancy and herpes transmission, including a hotline phone number where you can ask people difficult questions about herpes, check out the web site below. I've also included a link to the Valtrex study.

What will be my ovulation pattern now that I only have 1 fallopian tube?

Q. I just recently lost my baby last week through tubal pregnancy. Last week, they had to remove my left fallopian tube so I just wan to know what my ovulation pattern will look like?
Okay, I know I will still ovulate every month. To clarify the question, what will be the pregnancy ovulation pattern? How often will I be able to actually get pregnant?

A. You'll still probably still ovulate each month but since you only have one tube you may only be able to get pregnant every other month.

How can my fallopian tube be weak?
Q. I had an ectopic pregnancy and my one fallopian tube had to be removed. During the surgery the surgeon stated that he had to drain my other tube because there was blockage and noticed that my other tube was weak. What could have caused the tube to become weak?

A. Blocked fallopian tubes :-

When the route for the eggs, after ovulation, to the uterus is blocked, a pregnancy cannot occur. Tubes that are twisted and thin normally have muscles in their walls that are too thin and cannot make the pumping movement necessary to push the egg into the womb. Narrow and weak tubes are congenital.

Agglutinations generate from inflammations on the ovaries and tubes - chlamydia and gonorrhoea being the main causes. An inflammation in the ovaries and fallopian tubes, the appendices of the uterus, is called adnexitis.

so basically its mostly congential... i.e the way your made or something you've had since birth.

to a friend of mine fallopian tube was removed suspecting tubal pregnancy and a DNC was done .Why?
Q. to a friend of mine fallopian tube was removed suspecting tubal pregnancy and a cleaning of uterus was done .What might be the reason?

A.

Where can I find more information about a ruptured Fallopian Tube found in a newborn?
Q. All I can find is information about tubal (ectopic) pregnancies. What about ruptured Fallopian tubes in non-pregnant woman and babies?

I ask because I know a person who as a 28-day old baby had to have surgery to repair it and now wants to know more about it and whether it will effect her ability to become pregnant. She wants to gather some info before seeing a doctor about it, but I can't find anything for her.

A. I am so sorry about your friend. I had an ectopic pregnancy and it was SO painful. Hm, I would try a women's site like ivillage.com or Google it. Or maybe ask your own gynocologist about it and where you can find info about it.

Q. I thought it was stretch marks but I asked the doctor and she said it was pregnancy rash? It itches and burns she said use Aveeno or a cream you would use for chicken pox. They are not working anyone have any other solutions?

A.

is there such a thing as a pregnancy rash?
Q. i am 14 weeks pregnant and i have a question... is there such a thing a s a pregnancy rash?

Many women find the itching is most bothersome in the skin that stretches, mainly over the abdomen, but also on hips and thighs.

what questions should I be asking my dr about molar pregnancy?

How can a woman have lactation without pregnancy?

Q. i want my girl friend to lactate but what can i do to her with out her being pregnant

A. yes she can lactate without being pregnant, look it up on the internet, find some ways to do it. good luck

I want to ask about lactation without pregnancy?
Q. How to feed mothers milk to an adopted baby who is already a month old?

A.

Can a female un-spayed lab lactate without being pregnant?
Q. I was rubbing her belly and accident hit one of her nipples and milk came out.

Could there be another reason besides pregnancy that this could occur.

And I am 100% serious.

A. Funny you should ask that. I just took my intact female to the vet concerned she was pregnant because she was lactating. She had just completed her season about 6 weeks prior. I learned that all intact females have a false pregnancy to some extent following their season. For most, there are no apparent symptoms as hormones return to normal. To others, mine included, they have more apparent symptoms, such as going off food for a while, lactation, gathering fake 'puppies' and mothering them, etc.

So, I am taking you 100 % seriously, since I have just had this experience. Did your female just have her season?

I am looking for excerises to do to promote faster lactation?
Q. I am wanting to do daily exercises to promote lactation, i am also seeking exercises that will aid in keeping them firm and healthy also. Also if there is a diet that I am to follow please forward.

A. The breast is ordinarily prepared for lactation during pregnancy under the influence of estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, and other hormones. The ductal system proliferates and differentiates and the lobes, lobules, and alveoli increase in size (Riordan 2004). Without pregnancy, the same breast changes can be achieved through nipple stimulation, which causes the secretion of prolactin (Kolodny et al.), growth of secretory alveoli, and production of milk (WHO 1998).

Once milk secretion begins, removing milk causes more milk to be made (WHO 1998). It is a normal, natural process for the breast to produce milk in response to a baby suckling. Thus, weaning need not be permanent and babies unable to be cared for by their biological mother can be breastfed by their adoptive mother.

Adoptive mothers may be able to induce lactation by using a breast pump every 2-3 hours, either before the baby comes or after. Some also use a device such as the Medela Supplemental Nursing System or the Lact-Aid Nurser Training System. These both enable you to feed your baby while he is at your breast. This way, your baby gets enough milk while stimulating your body to produce your own milk. The key to all this is that the more stimulation your breasts receive, either by pump or baby, the more likely milk will be produced.

Can anemia cause a false negative on a preganancy test?

Q. I am anemic and a few months ago i missed my period and have been having abdominal pain. I have only missed that one period and had the others regularly. I had heard anemia can cause false negatives and abnormal menstruation during pregnancy. I have had two pregnancy tests and both were negative. Could i possible be pregnant?

A. Hmm...Interesting question. I have never heard of this! I don't imagine it would cause a false negative because anemia has nothing to do with your hCG count. But, I am not an expert.

For the abnormal menstruation, that DOES make sense but not during pregnancy. If you are pregnant you should not be "menstruating". You can spot, or even bleed lightely during pregnancy and be fine, but not "menstruate".

I starred it because I am kind of hoping someone can give a better answer.

Good luck.

Is drinking herbal tea during pregnancy safe?
Q. I love herbal tea, but I read on a website it may not be okay to drink during pregnancy. They especially adviced to stay away from Chmomile, but I personally don't see any harm in it? Am I wrong?

A. When it comes to herbal teas you do have to be careful because some herbs are used for home abortions and to induce labour herbs such as raspberry leaf, dong quai, blue cohosh and rue (natural oestrogenic and uterine contracting herbs).

As such depending on how far along you are some herbs may cause problems, although I doubt this is something you have to worry about particularly if you are not using these herbs for those purposes, but I would still say to play it safe with herbs do not drink anything unless you know it is okay to do so, people think herbs are harmless but just because they are natural does not make it so.

There is a good guide for you here - http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/pregnancy_herbs.html

Camomile tea specifically, it is generally regarded as safe as per FDA say-so, although it can be used as a mild emmenagogue (stimulates menstruation by softening cervix) in herbal teas in the form of your bog standard tea bags the effects are too small to mention it is only if you were making tea from the herb itself or in strong doses then it would be considered an emmenagogue that could theoretically be a minor issue to take into consideration with early or late stages of pregnancy.

Despite not being a professional I'd personally say it is safe, its calming affects are very beneficial during pregnancy, and the emmenagogue effects are minimal so not enough to cause problems, probably putting it along the same lines as parsley tea so considered safe during pregnancy, and certainly better than drinking normal black tea.

In simple terms chamomile tea good, any other herb be careful!

Why does a woman not have a period during the term of her pregnacy?
Q. I'm studying about reproductive system in science and I got a question why woman does not have period during pregnancy. I just wonder why, anyone please help me out. Thanks a lot~~~

A. Menstruation is the lining of the uterus (Endometrium) shedding because the egg that dropped during ovulation was not fertilized. So when the egg it fertilized, the lining turns into the placenta which supports the embryo during pregnancy.
You can read this website :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endometrium

is bloating a possible sign for pregnancy?
Q. so, my girl and i had sex 17 days ago and her menstruation should start soon, but the thing is, that she is feeling bloated after eating even a little. i read, that during pregnancy, women get bloated (BUT does that happen in week 3) and also that before menstruation they get bloated after eating. so, can someone tell me if they get bloated during pregnancy after eating something, or that just happens? btw, she doesnt have morning sicknesses and she doesnt go to the bathroom more often than before.

A. Could be pregnancy, or it could be that her period is coming.

No way of knowing until her period is late. If it is, do a test.

Does sexual activity during pregnancy predispose to premature labor?
Q. A lot of people say it's alright to engage in sexual activities during pregnancy as long as it could not cause discomforts on the part of the woman. But isn't it that stimulation (may be caused by sex) can lead to uterine contractions and this in turn might lead to premature labor? Do i make sense here?

A. No it does not cause preterm labor. It does cause contractions, which later in pregnancy can help progress things, but not cause labor.

You change positions when it hurts, if it starts hurting all the time you dont have sex, not because it can hurt the baby, but because it hurts your body.

The only time you dont have sex when pregnant is if you have an incomplete cervix or issues with your cervix, or a high risk pregnancy, or placenta problems, but those are things are found by your doctor and they tell you before hand.

Do sperm enter my uterus during pregnancy?
Q. I was wondering whether sperm ejaculated inside of me enter my uterus during pregnancy? My hubby and I have sex normally during my pregnancy but i don't know whether the pserm enter my uterus or is my cervix tightly closed during pregnancy so as not to let anything in? Thanks in advance.

A. Your cervix is closed, AND it has a mucous plug to keep anything from entering. So no, sperm does not enter your uterus during pregnancy.

That's what I was afraid of. Thank you.

A. as mentioned in the site of the american pregnancy association website :
A molar pregnancy is an abnormality of the placenta, caused by a problem when the egg and sperm join together at fertilization.
so there is a sperm and an egg, but the egg maybe abnormal/empty
it just doesn;t happen without fertilization
i won;t say your friend is a liar but this is what is well known about molar pregnancy

Does anyone know about HCG levels before and after a partial molar pregnancy?
Q. i found out i had a partial molar pregnancy after my d and c. before the d and c my hcg level was at 166,000. two weeks after its still 5000. is it normal to still be so high? my doctor doesn't seem to know the answer to this question. the whole pmp is a big waiting game and i am just trying to find out more information.

A. I was googling something else and found this on Wiki:

Levels of hCG may be measured in the blood or urine. Most commonly, this is done as a pregnancy test, intended to indicate the presence or absence of an implanted embryo. Testing for hCG may also be done when diagnosing or monitoring germ cell tumors and gestational trophoblastic disease.

Most tests employ a monoclonal antibody, which is specific to the β-subunit of hCG (β-hCG). This procedure is employed to ensure that tests do not make false positives by confusing hCG with LH and FSH. (The latter two are always present at varying levels in the body, whereas the presence of hCG almost always indicates pregnancy.)

The urine test may be a chromatographic immunoassay or any of several other test formats, home-, physician's office-, or laboratory-based.[6] Published detection thresholds range from 20 to 100 mIU/ml, depending on the brand of test.[7] Early in pregnancy, more accurate results may be obtained by using the first urine of the morning when hCG levels are highest. When the urine is dilute (specific gravity less than 1.015), the hCG concentration may not be representative of the blood concentration, and the test may be falsely negative.
The serum test, using 2-4 mL of venous blood, is typically a chemiluminescent or fluorimetric immunoassay[6] that can detect βhCG levels as low as 5 mIU/ml and allows quantification of the βhCG concentration. The ability to quantitate the βhCG level is useful in the monitoring germ cell and trophoblastic tumors, followup care after miscarriage, and in diagnosis of and follow-up care after treatment of ectopic pregnancy. The lack of a visible fetus on vaginal ultrasound after the βhCG levels have reached 1500 mIU/ml is strongly indicative of an ectopic pregnancy.
As pregnancy tests, quantitative blood tests and the most sensitive urine tests usually detect hCG between 6 to 12 days after ovulation.[8]

Gestational trophoblastic disease like Hydatidiform moles ("molar pregnancy") or Choriocarcinoma may produce high levels of βhCG (due to the presence of syncytialtrophoblasts- part of the villi that make up the placenta) despite the absence of an embryo. This, as well as several other conditions, can lead to elevated hCG readings in the absence of pregnancy.

hCG levels are also a component of the triple test, a screening test for certain fetal chromosomal abnormalities/birth defects.

There's more but it's too long to post. Try the website below.

Good luck, I hope you dont have this as it can be very scary!

what tablets can i use for a migraine in early pregnancy?

Q. Ive started with a migraine, but i don't know what tablets i can use before i start being sick etc! Which tablets are safe to use in early pregnancy?

A. During early pregnancy, you can take acetaminphen (tylenol) and also ibuprfen (motrin or advil). Most doctors will tell you to only take Tylenol, as ibuprofen is not safe during the third trimester. But during the first trimester they are equally safe to take.

What types of suppliments and medicines are not good to take with a birth control pill?
Q. I have heard ibuprofen and some others? Does anyone know the full list?

A. Unfortunately, there probably isn't a full list available out there, since there is very little research done on this subject.

Quoted from vaginapagina dot com:
What can interfere with my HBC?

When taking any medication, it's always a good idea to discuss possible HBC interactions with your doctor or your pharmacist. Some online sources, such as this report from the UK's Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care Clinical Effectiveness Unit (links to PDF document) and this drug interaction checker are also good starting points.

Prescription Medications and Herbal Supplements

A brief overview of the basics:

Antibiotics--The antibiotics rifampicin and rifabutin have been shown to interfere with the effectiveness of most hormonal contraceptives, though they don't appear to reduce the effectiveness of Depo Provera or the Mirena IUD. The evidence for other antibiotics is inconclusive, so it's best to discuss them with your doctor or pharmacist, and/or to use a backup method "just in case." (Source: FFPRHC)

Anti-Epilepsy Medications--"Carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbitol, primidone, and topiramate all interact. (These drugs may also be used for control of bipolar disorder) Your doctor may recommend a high-dose pill, or a backup method." (VPer smallstar mentioned this in this comment, which is also supported by the FFPRHC)

Antifungals--Most (like the commonly prescribed fluconazole and OTC yeast infection treatments) will have no effect on HBC. However, the antifungal griseofulvin will. (FFPRHC)

Antiretrovirals--These are the drugs commonly used to treat HIV. Some of them will interact with HBC while some do not. Discuss specific medications with your doctor or pharmacist.

Barbiturates--Some barbiturates fall into the category of anti-seizure medications. However, some, such as butalbital (found in medications such as Fiorinal), can be found in muscle relaxers and/or medications to treat migraines. According to Health A to Z and other sources, barbiturates reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. Backup protection is recommended.

St. John's Wort--According to Contraception Online, there have been small studies done in the UK and in Sweden in which some women taking both St. John's Wort and oral contraceptive pills experienced breathrough bleeding and/or unintended pregnancies. Though these studies were small, it is generally recommended that women not combine the use of St. John's Wort and HBC if they are relying on HBC for cycle regulation or pregnancy prevention.

Other Drugs and Herbal Supplements--To be safe, check each product with a doctor, pharmacist or herbalist before beginning the new treatment.

Is it normal to have bleeding a cramping during pregnancy?
Q. I am only 6 weeks along and I woke up with what i call "first day of period cramps" the annoying cramps you get when its your first day of your period but it isn't bad enough for ibuprofen some small bleeding that ( im sorry) i wiped, and when i wiped again the bleeding was gone. is this normal or should i call my doctor? its saturday my regular doctor office is closed.

A. I had cramps early in my pregnancies, and some spotting. Cramping is due to your uterus stretching. If it stopped, that's GREAT. Do NOT take ibuprofin when you are pregnant. Only tylenol for pain, unless otherwise directed. As for spotting, you could be dehydrated. While you're pregnant, concentrate on drinking lots of water. Decaf ice tea is fine, too. :)

How to help severe cramps after miscarriage?
Q. My g/f recently had a miscarriage, and has started having SEVERE cramps tonight. The doctor said this could last up to six weeks, but I can't stand her being in so much pain. She has already taken Ibuprofen, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.. I was wondering if this is because of the clots still being there, and any remedies people may know to ease her cramps from this?

A. During my last miscarriage last summer the cramps were absolutely unbearable. The cramps are caused by her body trying to expel the pregnancy tissue. My doctor gave me a week pain killer to help with the pain because I told him how bad it was. I think he ended up giving me hydrocodone? Tell her to ask, I'm sure they will be sympathetic.

Best wishes to both of you

is it possible to have the pregnancy rash known as PUPP in early pregnancy? Or, is that something that usually?
Q. Or is that something that usually occurs in the last trimester. I am a few days late with some other symptoms of pregnancy, but haven't tested yet, I'm waiting for a few more days to make sure. I had the pregnancy rash with my first pregnancy, but it occured in the last trimester. I am itchy all over, but particulary on my back with a pretty bad rash.

Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you!

what are the best websites about pregnancy?
Q. What are the best websites about pregnancy?
What web sites do you get the pregnancy tickers & widgets from?

Sorry if this question came up twice, it didn't post the first time.

A. I really like babycenter.com It has count down things and it tells you exactly what's going on inside you week by week.

why is my ticker not appearing as my signature?
Q. So I'm trying to put my pregnancy ticker as my signature on my email. But all I'm showing is the actual code when ever I send an email. What am I doing wrong?

A. All pics need to be web based
You need to have your photo based on a photostore on line
like Photobucket, flicker, etc then copy it from there and
paste it into your signature.
From your mail page Options-more options-signatures
click on use a signature then click on Rich text, make your
signature and paste the photo into it.
Then you must finish by clicking Save Changes.
Good luck.

Jess :)
