Is it possible to produce breast milk without getting pregnant?

Q. A friend of mine said that her sister was able to produce milk without getting pregnant when her boyfriend suck and pressed her breast. Is that possible and how?And can a 14 yrs old be able to do so?

A. Causes of Lactation Without Pregnancy

Hormonal Changes
There are various stages in a woman's life cycle, where a change in the hormonal level occurs. The body responds to such changes in various ways. One of such ways can be lactation without pregnancy. As already said, the hormone responsible for lactation is prolactin. Your breasts can start lactating if the amount of prolactin rises beyond its usual limits.

Miscarriage
In some women, miscarriage can also lead to lactation without pregnancy. Miscarriage is again followed by certain hormonal changes, or you can say imbalance, which can finally result in lactating breasts. At times, miscarriage goes unnoticed. You take it as a painful period with heavy bleeding, and do not notice that it was actually a loss of conception. In such situations, the reason behind lactation remains unexplained. It is recommendable that you see a doctor regarding such unusual experiences.

Nipple Stimulation
Breasts are a part of the reproductive system and are supposed to play their role after childbirth. But the breasts work on stimulation. If the nipples are sucked on a regular basis, your brain takes the sucking movements as a signal to start milk production. As a result, the mammary glands in your breasts produce milk. Many women, who do not aim to get pregnant but want to nurse a baby, make use of this fact and lactate for breastfeeding their adopted child. This also helps them in forming that special bond with their child, which exists only between a natural mother and her baby. It is observed that sucking the nipples for about 20 minutes, eight to ten times in day, for a period of minimum three weeks can stimulate lactation. But the sucking movement should be same as that of a baby's. You can do it either with your own hands or can take the help of your nursing partner.

Drugs
There are certain recommended drugs in lactation and pregnancy such as Reglan, Sulpiride and Domperidone that can stimulate lactation. They block dopamine and raise your prolactin level. Increased prolactin, in turn, results in lactation. The uptake of these drugs is often recommended when the mother is not lactating enough to feed her baby well.

Herbs
The intake of certain herbs can induce lactation, even without pregnancy. Fennel, fenugreek, anise seed, cumin seed, blessed thistle, goat's rue and hops are some of the common examples. Therefore, it is important to take these herbs within recommended amounts.

Though, lactation without pregnancy is harmless and benign, you should not take it casually, especially when the reason is unknown. Consult a medical professional to know the cause and necessary medical treatment.

How can a woman have lactation without pregnancy?
Q. i want my girl friend to lactate but what can i do to her with out her being pregnant

A. yes she can lactate without being pregnant, look it up on the internet, find some ways to do it. good luck

I want to ask about lactation without pregnancy?
Q. How to feed mothers milk to an adopted baby who is already a month old?

A.

Can a female un-spayed lab lactate without being pregnant?
Q. I was rubbing her belly and accident hit one of her nipples and milk came out.

Could there be another reason besides pregnancy that this could occur.

And I am 100% serious.

A. Funny you should ask that. I just took my intact female to the vet concerned she was pregnant because she was lactating. She had just completed her season about 6 weeks prior. I learned that all intact females have a false pregnancy to some extent following their season. For most, there are no apparent symptoms as hormones return to normal. To others, mine included, they have more apparent symptoms, such as going off food for a while, lactation, gathering fake 'puppies' and mothering them, etc.

So, I am taking you 100 % seriously, since I have just had this experience. Did your female just have her season?

How early can pregnancy signs start ?

Q. How early can pregnancy signs start . Its been a week since conseption and i get a little sick in the morning but I don't throw up . My boobs don't hurt yet . I had an ectopic pregnancy before. Can anyone tell me when to take a test or how early signs start ?

A. Hi Jennifer,

Pregnancy symptoms begin at different times for different women. Usually morning sickness or nausea will begin anywhere from 4-6 weeks gestation. Early pregnancy tests will detect if there is HCG in your urine. Although some are able to test before a period is missed it doesn't work for all. Make sure you are using first morning urine when you do test. If you have had a ectopic pregnancy the best bet is to contact your physician as soon as you suspect you may be pregnant. It is better to be safe then sorry.

Best of luck!

how soon after sex can you possibly feel the signs of a possible ectopic pregnancy?
Q. I had sex 2 days ago and was just wondering what the signs of an ectopic pregnancy are? The reason for this question is because I took Plan B and when researching the side effects, it listed what to do in case of an ectopic pregnancy.

A.

Can you have an ectopic pregnancy if you've already had a normal ultrasound?
Q. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and had an ultrasound that confirmed a uterine pregnancy. I keep noticing signs of an ectopic pregnancy but am not sure if they are relevant. When I found out I did not have morning sickness now all the sudden I get nauseas more, and ive been having mild cramps since I found out, and just got shoulder pain but it could be from sleeping or work.

A. Nope you're safe. Try to relax, 6 weeks is a common time to be experiencing a lot more symptoms, and some of them can be weird. Mild cramping, random aches and pains, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, trouble sleeping. All those things are normal and happen to a lot of us. Don't worry too much unless you are having unbearable pain. Congrats on your pregnancy and try to get some rest, your body needs it. :)

What are the signs of an ectopic pregnancy?
Q. I have an IUD in and lately I have been having spotting in between my periods and for the past couple days I have been having a sharp stabbing pain on my left lower abdomen that comes and goes. Does this sound like an ectopic pregnancy or am I over reacting?
I didnt have it put in recently. I had it put in over a year and a half ago.

A. Though you would not think so with you having the IUD But It could be possible, especially regarding the pain in your lower left abdomen..this could be an ectopic pregnancy in your left fallopian tube.
Sometimes, depending on how far the pregnancy is developed, the actual embryo can come away with a bleed naturally and this is far more common occurrence than we think.
Sometimes however they can require surgical removal, often in emergency,as if left an ectopic pregnancy can have quite serious consequences.

Mother nature plays many tricks on us and the trouble is that many symptoms associated with pregnancies ectopic or otherwise, can also be easily compaired to the symptoms of your periods so can easily be confusing..So while I wouldn't worry too much, see if these pains pass over the next few days but if they worsen at all then seek medical help as soon you can.

Hope you feel better real soon,Good Luck! xxx

Why am I having so many pregnancy dreams at such a young age?

Q. I've been having pregnancy dreams since I was 13, I'm now 16 and I'm a lesbian. Never have I had sexual intercourse with a man. So me being pregnant would be impossible. I plan on working in the o.b. part of hospitals when I'm older, but what would that have to do with me being pregnant? I've had about 6 or 7 dreams, 5 times out of those I've been expecting a girl. Never fully pregnant or in labor though. I definitely want kids in the future though. What does this mean?

A.

Is it normal to have pregnancy dreams if you're pregnant?
Q. For the last past days/nights I've been having some crazy pregnancy dreams about me holding my stomach and people telling me about being pregnant.

A. I would say so. I have dreams all the time about being pregnant and the baby doing weird things that it obviously wouldn't. I also had dreams about what gender the baby was going to be because I was going to have my ultrasound and in my dream it was a boy. I found out today I am having a boy! Yay :)

Did you have pregnancy dreams? If so, when did they occur and how often?
Q. I had a dream that I was in the hospital and I conceived a healthy baby boy but the baby and it seemed so real...Is it common to have pregnancy dreams? If yes, when does it occur and how often? I'm in the 2nd month of trying to conceive and in the 2 week waiting period and just wondering is this a common sign of pregnancy?

A.

What do my pregnancy dreams mean?
Q. Okay, I have these constant reoccuring pregnancy dreams. I've had the same one twice, and have had at least seven other variations. This has occured over the course of a year. I am not currently considering having children, and most likely won't be for quite some time. Thus, I find these dreams perplexing. Any ideas as to what these dreams mean?
I'm not sexually active- so there is no chance of me being pregnant.

A. You have a really cool destiny in you that has not been birthed yet; it is developing. Continue to develop and practice your gifts and talents, and it will be birthed when the timing is right. You don't want to birth it prematurely before it has had time to develop nor before the appropriate timing. At this point, just be encouraged that something cool is coming your way and developing for your life that has to do with your destiny (part of what you were created to do). This is great dream!

What do you do about all the extra discharge?

Q. How do you make yourself feel comfortable with all this horrid pregnancy discharge? Pantiliners didn't help me much with the wet feeling, but at least it was something, now my doctor doesn't want me to use anything because they've irritated my skin. I can't stand feeling wet and gooey all day!! One more thing, I was never like this before, will my discharge go back to normal after the baby is born?

A. It will be back to normal later on after birth. If you can't use pantyliners then just make frequent trips to the ladies room I guess. It is sooo annoying I know, but it won't last forever :)

Is it normal for my urine to smell funny during pregnancy?
Q. The following may be tmi, and I am sorry but I need to know. Is it dangerous in my urine smells funny? its been smelling weird since last night after eating spaghetti-o's. And I just really wanna know if I should worry? i have no smelly discharge, just regular white pregnancy discharge.I am only 10w1d pregnant, so I don;t know it this is normal around this time?

A. Its normal during pregnancy for your urine to start smelling a little funny, especially after eating certain types of foods. i would talk to your doctor about it to be on the safe side. but i wouldn't overly worry about it.

also, get checked out just to make sure you don't have a bladder or yeast infection. and drink more water and fluids. when you are dehydrated, that can cause your urine to smell a little as well.

I woke up to find an unusual amount of clearish white discharge could I be pregnant?
Q. Me and my husband TTC on Feb 15th and it has been 11 days since we tried and I woke up this morning to find an unusual amount of clearish white discharge in my underwear and its somewhat similar to ovulation discharge but there was somewhat of a difference. so Im wondering could this be pregnancy discharge or what? could I be pregnant?

A. If you are between puberty and menapause, and you have had sex (even protected), there is a chance you could be pregnant.

Take a pregnancy test or consult your doctor.

What is post ovulation discharge like?
Q. I ovulated on the 26 (or thats when i first got the ewcm which continues until the 27th) and i had sex that day and two days later. Ive noticed recently my discharge has become white/yellow and creamy and at times, especially in the morning, it feels like its running out of me. I dont know whats really normal because i have an irregular cycle but is this what happens? or could it be early pregnancy discharge?

A. That's not normal post ovulation discharge. Sounds more like pregnant discharge. They say its like hand lotion as far as texture goes.

How can I even out my skin tone?
Q. I had acne and I had that darn pregnancy mask and it didnt go all the way away. how do I achieve an even skintone again? Any good products that really work!!!

A. Olay! Any line of Olay works wonders! It's a bit pricey but WORTH IT! Try th cleanser for blemish prone skin. I had loads of acne, and it cleared up and then the marks were cleared away by Olay!

Love the skin you're in!

How to fight with massive allergies during the last three months of pregnancy?
Q. How to fight with massive allergies during the last three months of pregnancy? This is the seventh months pregnancy of my daughter.
I want to tell that it is irritating skin rashes/allergies over tummy, arms & legs.

A. First I would ask my physician if there are any recommended anti histamines for pregnant persons. If you don't want to use that option, nasal rinses made up of just salt water help decongest sinuses for a short time. Menthol and eucalyptus cough drops help with decongestion as well. A steam bath using a cup of apple cide vinegar in a quart of water for your sinuses (put a towel over your head, heat up the liquid, turn off the heat, give it a few minutes so you don't burn your sinuses and put your head over the steam, the towel is to help keep the steam near your nose and inhale). Eating the yoghurt mix that advertises its good for your immune system may help your allergies, (check with your Dr. if there are reasons not to eat that stuff), and lastly, keep away as best you can from the things your are allergic to. Take frequent warm showers and wash well so you are washing off allergins, when cleaning only clean with a wet mop or rag, and have someone else do the vacuuming and wait a few minutes after vacuuming before entering your home so the dust settles. Check you soaps and perfumes, and use only ones that are hypo allergenic and maybe not use perfumes at all. When outside if you have pollen allergies wear a small filtering mask, if you live in the US its going to be cold soon so that shouldn't be an issue unless you are in the south. Stay away from what you are allergic to, treat your symptoms and check to see what the Dr. says about anti-histamines, there may be one out there that is considered OK for mom and baby.

what questions should I be asking my dr about molar pregnancy?

Q. Is there things I should be doing or asking the dr about the molar pregnancy? is there somthing I should be doing that will lower my hcg level faster? Should I go have chest x-rays?

A. Is it a complete or incomplete mole? That means was it diploid (with the normal number of chromosomes-2, one from each parent) or triploid (three sets of chromosomes-one from mom, two from dad). With that answer should come some information about how likely it is to need long term monitoring.

One in a thousand pregnancies are molar pregnancies, some are blighted ova. Your physician will want to do sequential hCG levels at least until they get to normal, which should happen in about 2-3 weeks. Chest xrays are very safe as the amount of radiation you receive is very low, since the film is so sensitive.

I had one about 11 years ago, and had my daughter eight years ago. It is discouraging and disconcerting, but one day this too will be in your past, and you can advise others of your previous condition, and hopefully offer reassurance.

Best wishes.

What were your HCG levels when you had a molar pregnancy?
Q. There is a small chance that my dates weren't calculated correctly... but I believe I'm at 4 weeks (since last period) with a 4000 hcg... which is very very high. I'm obviously worried it's a molar pregnancy. Have you ever had a molar pregnancy? If so, what were your levels early on in pregnancy?
Thanks in advance. I have an ultrasound scheduled for this evening but I'm just trying to get through today. :(

A. I have had a molar pregnancy but i never knew what my levels were.

I had gone for my 12 weeks scan and they told me my baby had died at 6 weeks 6 days. i then ended up having a d&c and thats how they found out i had a molar pregnancy.

If they were worried about the levels they would have said something.

i wouldnt worry about molar pregnancy to much, it aint a common thing atall.

Just try and chill out and enjoy your pregnancy x

i had two miscarrages before having my daughter, then i got pregnant but it became a molar pregnancy?
Q. so with all this miscarrages, can I ever get pregnant again?.. I am so depressed because my doctor said there's a chance I develope a molar pregnancy again or a chance I can actually have a baby.. and the molar pregnancy was in december of 2010, how long do I have to wait to try getting pregnant again? I appreciate your answers.

A.

does methotrexate cause fertility issues or other complications after molar pregnancy?
Q. It's been 5 years since and I've had a daughter and adopted a son.

does methotrexate cause fertility issues or other complications

Also I've developed Lupus like symptoms (joint pain, photosensitivity, pos ANA, Nephritis, mouth sores)
Can this be caused by a molar pregnancy ot metotrexate?

A. The Lupus type symptoms could be coming from the Methotrexate, but I would recommend getting in touch with your rheumatologist as well to see what they say, and also I would recommend checking with your pharmacist and OB/GYN to see what they say about the potential for infertility with this medication.

What are the chances that a home pregnancy test could be wrong?

Q. I got a negative test yesterday and if I were pregnant I would be about 4 and a half weeks. what are the chances that this could have been wrong? The reason why I'm asking is because I am having some symptoms that are related to early pregnancy, such as fatigue, constipation, dark nipples, gassy like burping and upset stomach.
I forgot to add that I also have bloating and have gained about 3 pounds.

A. It's highly possible. I took a few first response tests and they were negative. They are supposed to tell you 6 days BEFORE your missed period. I took them AFTER my missed period and they were still negative. I didn't get a positive until a week after my missed period and by then I was in my 5th week. So it's highly possible. Best of luck to you! Hope I helped!! :D

How long after your pregnancy , do you start feeling bloated?
Q. How long after your pregnancy , do you start feeling bloated?
And do you get acne on your face?

A. Well from my experience, I got bloated in my first month of pregnancy

at what a bummer that was.

I got acne later on in my pregnancy, but alot worser things can and

will occur for some women like hemorrhoids, stretchmarks, constipation
etc...

So just enjoy when the time comes for you to finally see the baby

that caused mommy all the problems.

What pregnancy symptoms did your birth control give you?
Q. I know birth control can sometimes cause pregnancy symptoms so I was curious to see what symptoms others had and how long they lasted. Also, if you got pregnant while on the pill did that have any affect on your symptoms or when you found out you were pregnant?

A. Well they would actually be symptoms that mimic pregnancy symptoms or PMS. Fatigue, weight gain, crazy emotions (up and down), bloating, constipation. Those are some of the most common. Light spotting before you take your sugar pills (the last week of pills in the pack). You can even skip your periods on birth control or not even get them if you are taking something like depo (the shot).

If you got pregnant on birth contorl it would not effect any symptoms that you would get if you were pregnant.

What to feel in you stomach during early pregnancy?
Q. Can you actually feel a change in how your lower stomach feels during early pregnancy? And how about inside. What does the implantation cramping feel like? Is it similar to period cramping or like a pressure feeling. I'm asking because i have been experiencing these sensations in my stomach like period cramping. they come and go and i can sometimes feel it in my lower back.

A. From what I've heard from other mothers, implantation bleeding isn't noticed very often, or doesn't actually occur often enough to really notice. Never happened with me. The main change I'd say that would be most common, especially in super early pregnancy, would be constipation. I had a "baby bulge" when I was 6 weeks in both of my pregnancies, even though it wasn't the baby. I was simply constipated. it was horrible.

What are your current pregnancy cravings?

Q. I have read you can have pregnancy cravings at any point during a pregancny. For some ladies its as early as the first month, others it varies.
With my previous pregnancy- I craved spicy foods & corn dogs off and on..
With my current one, Im craving a ton of dairy products. Cheeses, Yogurts and Milk (of course). Not really into ice cream.

A. I'm 21 weeks along and throughout my pregnancy I've craved anything spicy (although now that the heartburn is starting to kick in I'm trying to nip this one in the butt), sour patch kids, fruit loops OMG fruit loops are awesome lol, those canned green beans with onions and red bell peppers in them and last but not least....turkey, lots of mustard and a ton of pickles sandwhiches. Hehe thats about all I eat all day....My honey is worried that the baby is going to turn out eating nothing but turkey sandwhiches and fruit loops.

How strong are the pregnancy cravings really?
Q. I may be pregnant. I have a doctor's appointment this week to confirm. But I am going crazy craving for sour stuff and a lot of chillies (hot sauces). And I guess I was wondering how strong are the pregnancy cravings really. Can you contain them. Like if you don't give in, do they go away? Or is it in my head?

A. They are very real and very crazy and very strong. Usually they are a bi-product of hormone changes. If you don't give in, then sometimes they go away, sometimes they change or sometimes they don't. You will laugh but with my first pregnancy one day I woke up and I thought I was going to die unless I had a girl scout cookie. The ones made with coconut. Anyway...I crawled across my floor to the phone, called the girl scout office which was 20 or so miles away and made them hold the last box for me while I drove there! Now thats crazy. I have had three kids and only got cravings once. But if you want it go and get it!

When did you start having pregnancy cravings?
Q. Hi ladies!

I am just about halfway through my first pregnancy and have not had a sin-gle craving. Not one! I have heard stories about women in TEARS because their husbands won't go on a 2 am jello run, but I have also read that pregnancy cravings are a complete myth, totally mental, etc etc - what do you think? Did you have specific, unbearable cravings while pregnant? And when did they start? Thanks!

A. I haven't had any. I'm 26 weeks now. I think I may miss that. Honestly though, I believe that a lot of women who have it are making themselves have it. Yes, I think it is a real symptom, but I think a lot of women convince themselves that they must have it so much that they do. Or use it as an excuse. Remember though, real or not, every pregnancy and every woman is different. My cravings are no stronger than they were before I was pregnant. But I really haven't had very many symptoms of pregnancy anyways.
To me, if your craving jello that bad at 2am that you are in tears then get off your damn ass and get it yourself. lol. Your pregnant, not a paraplegic. Which is why I think some women just use it as an excuse to make their husbands go get it. If I'm craving chips, I'll go get them myself. If I don't want to go out to get some then I'm obviously not craving them that much am I?
See now that you mentioned Jello, I want some. I have some in the cupboard but it has to be made. I don't feel like making it right now so I won't. I'm not craving it THAT bad. lol

Ladies, how far along in your pregnancies did you go before you started the typical pregnancy cravings we have?
Q. I just got a positive test result last week, but I already desire nachos and cheese a lot more than I previously cared for. I think I am maybe 1 month, I haven't been to the doctor yet. Can this be pregnancy cravings this soon, or is it all in my head?

A. Yes you can have cravings this early. I didn't have any cravings with my first, They started about 4 months along with my second ( steak and watermelon ). But with this last one it was at about 6 weeks ( Subway ).

How much would it be to alleviate our girl chihuahua from her swollen mammary glands from a false pregnancy?

Q. We haven't gotten her spayed. I've done some researching online and I think she's going through a false pregnancy. However, her swollen breast isn't painful, it's just very big. We have been trying to save enough up to take her to the vet, but I'm just wondering how much it would to be to help her.

A. Why don't you try holding warm compresses on her swollen mammary gland to see if you can help it drain.
Maybe someone on here knows something you can give her to dry up her milk which is probably what the issue is.I had a dog who was spayed and still went through several false pregnancies.her milk just dissolved after a few days but she didn't get very swollen. You dog could have an infection which is why I suggested warm compresses.

How long does a false pregnancy present in Chihuahuas?
Q. Does the false pregnancy present full term or is there a point you can tell that they are actually pregnant?
If they are pregnant, how often should they go for walks and how long?
We have been to the vet since the assumed conception, but at that point our vet said the test would be unreliable.
We haven't gone back as of yet so I was looking for some insight in the meantime.
If I had wanted condescension about not knowing or having her spayed I would have asked a different question.

A. It can last as long as a pregnancy. Only way to know for sure is to go to the Vet and have a pregnancy test done.

How do you know if a rabbit has a false pregnancy?
Q. How do you know when your rabbit has a false pregnancy and when will she stop acting like she's pregnant?

A. A rabbit might go through a false pregnancy is she is bred to a buck but doesn't get pregnant or even if another female rabbit mounts her. Signs of pregnancy can include restlessness, increased appetite and digging in the cage, and throwing around bowls, toys, etc. Around the 18th day of a false pregnancy, your doe may carry hay and make a nest and pull fur from her chest and belly. This is a pretty good sign she's experienced a false pregnancy. She may be bred again after that.

A genuine pregnancy lasts approximately 31 days.

How does your body have a false pregnancy?
Q. I dont understand how that works. Could you explain the following please.
1. What causes a false pregnancy?
2. What happens to your body?
3. What is the aftermath of such an experience?

Please and thank you.

A. Some women believe without a doubt they are truly pregnant. Their bodies secrete hormones to physically mock a real pregnancy. They start to have symptoms that normal pregnant women have and some even believe they feel the "baby" moving. The aftermath usually results in the woman realizing she is not pregnant (which is hard since this condition is mainly mental), and may lead to medication, therapy, etc. Usually pregnancy tests and/or an ultrasound are ways used to show the woman she is not with child. Hope this helped.

is stomach cramps and uncontrollable diarrhea normal during pregnancy?

Q. I am currently about 4 months pregnant. For the passed 5 days i've been having uncontrollable diarrhea. I've also been getting random really bad stomach cramps for the passed 2 days, that last just a few seconds. I think the stomach cramps have to do with horrible gas. Are these symptoms normal or is something wrong? If something is wrong, what are the possibilities that it could be?

A. I would actually call your OB tomorrow -

While its normal to have diarrhea during pregnancy it shouldn't last 5 days

Your body does one of two things when pregnant - it either speeds way down and you get constipated or it speeds way up and you get diarrhea - but diarrhea for 5 straight days isn't normal

Is it normal to have diarrhea during pregnancy?
Q. I am 25 weeks. For the past couple week I've been having diarrhea. Is this normal?

A. Yes it's normal.......
Good luck and congrats in your pregnancy!

Is it normal do have diarrhea during early pregnancy?
Q. I know this may be (TMI) but i'm curious. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and i've experienced constipation throughout the past couple of weeks. I just went to the bathroom and had diarrhea. Is this normal or should I be concerned? What i think off set it was the smell of fried fish being cooked by my parents. Any ideas?

A. I've had diarrhea a few different times since being pregnant. I didn't see it as being a problem. I don't think you should either. Drink a little more water than normal and keep an eye on it... If it gets severe, visit your doc. Otherwise, diarrhea, vomiting, gas, bloating, constipation, nausea... It's all part of the joy of being pregnant. :)

Good luck! xoxo.

Has anyone ever heard of a pregnancy mask? Two toned face due to sun?

Q. my face is two diff. Colors. I went to get my make up done and she told me about something called a pregnancy mask. Don't have insurance until I hit 7months in pregnancy. I'm 6months now and even though it's killing me to wait I have no other choice. Please help.

A. I've talked to some ladies on babycenter that had pregnancy mask when they were pregnant. If you do have it there's nothing to be done, and it will go away after you have your baby.

What is best makeup to cover melasma?
Q. I have just discovered that I have Melasma or Pregnancy mask on my face and especially my upper lip. I am trying to find a makeup that will cover it with out feeling like sludge. I do not care how much it costs. What is the best?

A. The dermablend line makes products with exceptional coverage for troubled skin

Pregnancy Mask?Have any of you ever had one?How do you get rid of it?Should I see a Dermatologist?
Q. My son is almost 18 months and my mask is peeling but not going away!t looks like I have done a really bad job of applying foundation on my face!If you do not know what a pregnancy mask is it is like a dark tan on your face you get when your pregnant. It is getting more noticable the more it is peeling away but it looks horrible!Does anyone know if I can have it removed somehow??

A. some moms get the "pregnancy mask" & some don't but i would go to my dermatologist to get a product to fade it. he/she might prescribe tri-luma, a triple ingredient product frequently used to fade this type of problem. you might get a salicylic acid peel (20 or 30 percent.) this will slough off skin & hopefully reveal new clearer skin beneath. use an alpha/beta hydroxy product to help w/ cell turnover daily. i use olay regenerist wash which works like a mini microdermabrasion daily. you might like it too.
remember to wear sunscreen daily b/c the sun will cause your face to product melanin which is dark pigment & this is what you are trying to reduce.
good luck!

Has there been any study on the effects of caffeine and pregnancy?

Q. I don't drink any sodas or coffee, but I do have the occasional glass of tea (like one 20 oz glass per week). I was wondering if there is any proof out there that caffeine is bad for pregnancy.

A. There have been lots of recent studies, which you can find by googling caffine and pregnancy study" and almost all of them say that 1-2 servings of caffine a day (soda, tea, or coffee) does not make a difference. My Dr. told me that I could have a daily cup of coffee and not think twice about it, which kept me sane when I got really tired.

Just make sure that with the teas that you stay away from Green teas (which blocks the absorption of folic acid) and any teas that have additives in it (like diuretic weight loss teas, or teas enanced with things guarana). It's best to have just straight forward herbal tea.

Hope that helps! Enjoy your tea.

Can caffeine hurt a baby when you are pregnant?
Q. If you drink caffeine threw your pregnancy can it hurt the baby?

A. Unless you drink cups of caffeine beverages every day, cup of soda every now and then won't hurt your baby. I'm from Europe and we drink cups of tea every day (whether you're pregnant or not) and the babies are born just fine.

Has anyone been drinking caffeine during pregnancy?
Q. I am 30 weeks pregnant and just can't let that cold cup of ice tea go....I want to have a healthy baby, but I have an addiction to sweet ice tea. Has anyone drank caffeine throughout their entire pregnancy and had a healthy baby.

A. I had the very same addiction, that & coffee coolatas from dunkin donuts :)
I definitely drank less caffeine than usually, sometimes only one-two drinks a week. My daughter was born real healthy :)
But my mom drank caffeine all the time when she was pregnant with my sisters & I. We're all healthy & my husbands mom is addicted to pepsi & drinks it A LOT & she did that with all three of her sons. They all came out healthy.
My parents along with his said that they never even heard of having to cut back on it...
It wasn't always "known" to drink less caffeine & look how many women did it, & had healthy babies. I'm sure your mom & all of your friends moms...

Here is a website that gives you a little more information, facts & myths;

Do I have to cut out sugar and caffeine totally during pregnancy?
Q. What about Caffeine Free sodas?
Or a few pieces of chocolate?
Is it that bad for you?

A. I cut out caffine to some degree but not all of it. You are allowed to drink about 6-8 cups of tea a day. I drank decaffinated tea and caffine-free coke cola (which is exactly the same). Chocolate is fine. My doctor told me to eat what I crave and when I want to.

Why might a lactating woman need to take an iron supplement?

Q. A- To improve the flavor of breast milk
B- To increase iron content of breast milk
C- To replace the iron stores she lost during pregnancy
D- To account for the re-start of menstruation that usually occurs 1-2 months postpartum

Thanks!

A. B- To increase iron content of breast milk

Which of the following statements is true concerning the mammary glands of both males and females?
Q. a.) Both sexes are equally prone to breast cancer
b.) All lumps identified in breast tissue are malignant.
c.) The only time hormones target breast tissue is during pregnancy and lactation.
d.) The mammary glands are modified sweat glands that are actually part of the integumentary system.

A. D) is correct. It is considered a modified sweat gland.

Women are more prone to breast cancer, but men can still get it.

Lumps in breast tissue can be anything from a plugged milk duct to cancer, so B is false.

C is wrong too because you also have hormonal influence on breast tissue in men who abuse steroids and take hormone injections, during menstruation, menopause, etc. etc.

when does birth control pill start to effect?
Q. I started to take the Pills. I did my best to precisely follow the instructions: Took the first pill on the day when menstruation started, took the pill on the same time everyday. Now I am taking the second sheet of the Pill. I slept with my partner 14 days after the menstruation during the 7 days rest.
When can we say for sure that the Pill works properly....?

A. If you started during menstruation, you're protected from pregnancy immediately provided that you take the pills correctly- every day at the same time. If you start at any other time, it's 7 days of back up contraception before you're protected.

People who say it takes up to a month or longer for it to be effective are misled- it can take that long for your body to adjust, meaning that you might experience breakthrough bleeding or spotting between periods, nausea, breast tenderness, etc.. It does not, however, mean that you aren't protected from pregnancy.

Molar pregnancy suspected after early miscarriage?

Q. I had a miscarriage when I was about 6 weeks along. Now, one month later, they are suspecting a molar pregnancy due to bleeding and increasing hcg levels.
The info that I have seen on the internet mostly deals with molar pregnancies that are 3-5 months along. I was wondering if anyone had one diagnosed this early, and what they went through.

A. I had mine when I was 3 months, but what they saw was grape like clusters on the ultrasounds and my HCG levels were extremely high. The important thing in any molar pregnancy is that you have a D&C (which your doctor will have you do anyways) and to be monitored for 6 months to a year after as molar pregnancies can (but dont always) lead to cancer. I was followed for 1 year after my molar pregnancy and was perfectly healthy. Good luck, I hope you dont have this as it can be very scary!

what questions should I be asking my dr about molar pregnancy?

I appreciate your answers.

is it effect birth and is there any qouncequances on my health during pregnancy?

Q. Hi,im Noor ,pregnant with my first child and i have anemia along with low plateletes about 53000 only and i didnt take any cure due to my pregnancy.what should i do, could it effect my birth?.
could it harm me during pregnancy?
please help.
thanks.
please i need a pro. opinion based on experience or medical advice.

A. You need to take plenty of iron and vitamin C. It can cause heavy bleeding after birth and it can also make it very difficult to produce enough milk for the baby. Being too anemic could cause you to bleed to death.

What tests and things need to be done during a pregnancy and one year after giving birth?
Q. I am doing a project for school and I need to know the cost of having a baby. I would like to know what tests and vaccinations need to be done during pregnancy and one year after giving birth.

A. That is alot of info. I posted a link to baby center. I used that alot when I was pregnant. The link lists all the test by trimesters.

I am sure if you use this site it will help with all your questions for your project.

Here is how that starts and I ONLY listed the first trimester:

"First trimester tests"
At your first prenatal visit, your practitioner will give you a thorough physical, including a pelvic exam. She'll do a Pap smear (unless you've had one recently) to check for abnormal cells, including cervical cancer. She may also do a culture to check for chlamydia and gonorrhea.

Next, she'll order routine blood tests to identify your blood type and Rh status, and a blood count to check for anemia. She'll also have the lab test your blood for syphilis, hepatitis B, and immunity to German measles (rubella), and offer to test for HIV. (If your practitioner doesn't offer you an HIV test, be sure to ask about it. Being treated for HIV during pregnancy can dramatically reduce your chances of passing the infection to your baby.) In addition to taking blood, she'll ask for a urine sample to test for urinary tract infections and other conditions.

If you're at high risk for gestational diabetes, a glucose challenge test might be done at your first visit. In some cases, your provider will also do a skin test to see if you've been exposed to tuberculosis. And if you're not sure whether you've even had chicken pox (or been vaccinated against the virus), she'll order a blood test to check for immunity.

In addition, your caregiver may offer you genetic screening, such as a nuchal translucency screening (an ultrasound done at 10 to 12 weeks) or a first-trimester combined screening (an ultrasound and a blood test). These screening tests can give you some information about your baby's risk of having certain chromosomal problems and other birth defects. Another option is CVS, a prenatal genetic diagnostic test done between 10 and 13 weeks. Finally, depending on your ethnic background and medical history, you may have a blood test to see if your baby is at risk for sickle cell disease, Tay-Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis, thalassemia, and certain other genetic disorders. "

GOOD LUCK and I hope you get an A+

Can anemia cause a false negative on a preganancy test?
Q. I am anemic and a few months ago i missed my period and have been having abdominal pain. I have only missed that one period and had the others regularly. I had heard anemia can cause false negatives and abnormal menstruation during pregnancy. I have had two pregnancy tests and both were negative. Could i possible be pregnant?

A. Hmm...Interesting question. I have never heard of this! I don't imagine it would cause a false negative because anemia has nothing to do with your hCG count. But, I am not an expert.

For the abnormal menstruation, that DOES make sense but not during pregnancy. If you are pregnant you should not be "menstruating". You can spot, or even bleed lightely during pregnancy and be fine, but not "menstruate".

I starred it because I am kind of hoping someone can give a better answer.

Good luck.

Rh alloimmunization during pregnancy - is there a similar rxn with regard to the ABO system?
Q. I dunno if anyone will be able to help me with this, but I'm curious. I understand Rh sensitization during pregnancy and why it's important to prevent it. My question is this: is there a similar reaction to a mixing of maternal and fetal blood with regard to the ABO system? If not, then why not? It seems like it would work on the same principle, but I've never heard of a drug that addresses such a problem.

A. With Rh factor, named after it's discovery using Rhesus monkeys, the problem occurs when the fetus is Rh+ (thus HAS the Rh+ protein) and the mother is Rh- (does NOT have the protein). In this case the child would have gotten this protein from the father. The mother's body sees the protein as foreign, at least to her, and tries to destroy it, and in doing so harms the fetus in the process. With the ABO system you can have whats called ABO incompatibility. This disease afflicts newborns whose mothers are blood type O, and who have a baby with type A, B, or AB.

Ordinarily, the antibodies against the foreign blood types A and B that circulate in mother's bloodstream remain there, because they are of a type that is too large to pass easily across the placenta into the fetal circulation. Some fetal red cells always leak into mother's circulation across the placental barrier (mother and fetal blood theoretically do not mix, but in actuality, they do to a small degree).

These fetal red cells stimulate the formation of a smaller type of anti-A or anti-B antibody which can pass into the baby's circulation and there cause the destruction of fetal red cells. The increased rate of destruction of red cells causes a subsequent increase in waste product production. This excess waste product, bilirubin, can overwhelm the normal waste elimination processes and lead to jaundice, the presence of excess bilirubin.

This condition is one of the hemolytic anemias. Jaundice is the most common problem encountered, which may require phototherapy or even exchange transfusion. Anemia of some severity is sometimes encountered and may need to be tracked with serial blood counts, but I have yet to see a case severe enough to justify transfusion. For reasons that are unclear, B-O incompatibility (mother type O, baby type B) seems to be in general more severe than A-O incompatiblity.

Can water-based lube be used during sex after losing the mucus plug?

Q. Sex is okay after losing mucus plug during pregnancy, but is it okay to use NON-petroleum-based lube still?

A. Hi,

Yes this will help you in proper sex. Water base jellys are always good,

What does the mucus plug in pregnancy look like?
Q. I know that this is a disgusting question, but I am 34 weeks pregnant and just passed something that looked like a slug. It was white with streaks of brown in it. Could this be my mucus plug and if so, isn't it a little early to be passing it? Should I be calling my doctor right now or wait until the morning?

A. That would be part of your plug-it is normal to start losing it as early as 29 weeks. You do not have to call your doctor, just let them know that you lost some at your next app. I started losing mine a week ago and I am 33 weeks. And trust me there is a large amount of plug you have to lose and it can take several days or weeks to lose it all. Soon you will be going UHHHH again? More? yes more and more of it will sneek out in little or big bits. The brown streaks is normal and even a tint of red is too. I always say it looks like I blew my nose in my underwear when I have a bad cold! LOL It is nasty but it is normal!

Lost my mucus plug how long till I start dilating and go into labor?
Q. This is my first pregnancy and I am just curious. I lost what I think was my mucus plug yesterday and I was wondering how long till I dilate and is there any way I can tell myself if I am? Also what will help speed up the process I'm miserable?

A. Everyone I have known who has been pregnant has said their doctor told them that it can actually take up to two weeks for the baby to be born... My friend who is pregnant right now, her first pregnancy she lost her plug 3 weeks before birth, which is not normal at all. She just lost her mucus plug about a week ago with this pregnancy, and isn't due for another 3 weeks. So, what I am getting at is that you should have your baby anytime between now and two weeks from now. This is a pretty unpredictable time in your pregnancy as for when the baby will come. Good luck!

How long does it take for your mucus plug to pass?
Q. I am 8 months pregnant and on Thursday I went to the doctor and he told me I had passed my mucus plug and I am 2 cm dilated. About 10 minutes ago I went to the bathroom, and I peed. When I wiped myself there was a little spot of what looked like mucus. Is my mucus plug still passing? This is my first pregnancy so I'm confused.

A. i was reading on google that sometimes if a woman that is pregnant has alot more discharge than normal she may not notice the mucus plug passing... because it varies in look... mucusy, watery, tinged with blood, brown, pink....... its all different. but if the doc said that you "passed" it already then thats that i guess....

What is the earliest time that you could take a pregnancy test, and is feeling dizzy after one week a sign?
Q. I am feeling dizzy and was wondering if this could be a pregnancy symptom after a week of unprotected sex.. and when can i take the test the earliest?

A. i would take a test after you've missed your period.
feeling dizzy is one of the symptoms.

along with:

missed menstrual period
nausea
extreme fatigue
frequent urination
tender breasts
headache
heartburn
constipation
spotting
feeling faint

How do you tell the difference between period symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms?
Q. How do you tell the difference between period symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms? They're so much alike! And I end up getting my hopes up every month. I am 11 DPO and I've been crampy with sore breasts since Monday. And just now I'm feeling weak and a little nauseous. I always cramp a few days before I start though so I'm trying not to think about it. I guess talking about it on here doesn't help much huh? haha.

A. Pregnancy symptoms can vary from one woman to another. In fact, some pregnant woman may not have any pregnancy symptoms at all for a while and another woman will know she is pregnant very easily just from her symptoms alone.

Some of the early pregnancy symptoms are the following:

missed menstrual period
morning sickness
frequent urination
mood swings
swollen and tender breasts
constipation
sensitivity to smell
fatigue

How can I ease the pregnancy cramps and pressure?
Q. My doctor put me on bed rest for the remaining two weeks of my pregnancy which has made my constipation worse due to lack of activity.. The abdominal cramping is unbearable and I'm also getting extreme gas cramps on my right side that go into my back. How can I relieve this pressure? I honestly can't freakin take it anymore!

A. Drink lots of water that will help with the cramps. You can also take Phazyme in pregnancy you can call your doc but it helps with gas. You could try a few pregnancy yoga poses to help with the in-activity. Congrats!

How can I make a false pregnancy test?

Q. My best friend is being very careless recently...I would really like to give her a good pregnancy scare so that maybe she will think about what she's doing. How would I falsify a pregnancy test so that I could maybe switch the tests (only if it's negative, obviously) so that she will be fooled?

A. Why don't you show her medical pictures of the damage that STDs will do, a good dose of vaginal warts, lesions, weeping wounds, mouth thrush and sarcoma of the skin from aids and a good herpes outbreak will cure her habit of not using protection!Unlike pregnancy Herpes and HIV is for ever.

Do you think once people start getting vaccinated for HIV and Herpes they will have more unsafe sex?
Q. Since those are the 2 major chronic diseases that scare people into using condoms....along with pregnancy. Most other STDs can be cured with some antibiotics. What do you think?

A. NO COS YOU ARE WRONG CONDOMS DO NOT PROTECT YOU FROM HERPES HPV OR CRABS

Is it dangerous to get your first cold sore during pregnancy? Does it harm the fetus?
Q. I know that it's herpes simplex, not herpes zoster and that it's dangerous to kiss a newborn when you have a cold sore. But if you first come in contact with the virus while pregnant is it dangerous to the fetus?

A.

How long does it take to detect vaginal herpes?
Q. I have had through out the years vaginal lesions. I didn't think they were vaginal warts because there was not a wart bump, but more like a open sore. I as the doctor a year ago if I could have herpes and she said I had to come in when I had an outbreak. Now I am pregnant and my doctor says I have herpes and will need cream to put on during the birth so my child wont get it. I have a son 5 years ago and the doctor never said anything about herpes to me then. Is the blood test for herpes a new test? Would it have been detected 5 years ago if I had it then?

A. You have to have a blood test done during an OUTBREAK, because the antibodies are in your system, trying to fight off the herpes virus. That is the only time it will show up in a test. If you didn't know you had herpes 5 years ago, then your doctor would not have known. Like I said, unless you told the doctor, or there was an outbreak (something for your doctor to see and TEST), then he would not have known. As for your current pregnancy, you need to be put on Valtrex (yes, it is safe), because if you have an outbreak and then have a vaginal birth, the baby will be exposed with potentially life threatening consequences. If you have an outbreak despite Valtrex when it is time to deliver your baby, your doctor will need to perform a c-section, NOT administer a "cream". This is serious business and it concerns me that your doctor is talking about creams and not putting you on medication.

How does pregnancy spotting look like?

Q. i am 4 days late on my period. it is not normal for me to be this late. i always know when it comes and its never been this late. i took a pregnancy test yesterday came out negative:/ idk if its a bit to early to test as i read online. me and my husband have been trying to conceive. i believe i am having some spotting and some cramps. but idk if it is spot from a pregnancy. the spotting is a lite pink and today i just got it a bit more heavy like a quarter size. then yesterdays. is it normal that i bleed that much?

A.

Is it to early to take a home pregnancy test?
Q. I think i might be having early pregnancy spotting but i don't know for sure is it to early to take a home pregnancy test???? If it is to early when should i take a home pregnancy test????

A. Too early is when you test more than 5 days before your expected period or 14 days after unprotected sex

Its best to wait until you MISS a period to take a test

What is the difference between "spotting" and a normal period?
Q. So, I'm trying to get pregnant. I may be over-zealous. Whenever I go to look what the early signs of pregnancy are, spotting is one of the signs.

How heavy is spotting? Can it look like a normal period? Act like a normal period?

A. While spotting can be a sign of early pregnancy, few women actually experience this. You shouldn't use this as a basis for possible fertilization. But none the less, "spotting" is not going to feel like your period. You may experience some slight cramps with it but not the "flow" feeling of blood leaving your body. You know how you can tell you have started overnight, or the way you know you have leaked past a tampon. Spotting should be quick, and light colored. If not in a traditional splatters, it should not last more than a day and you should not soak through a pad in two hours. If you still want to speculate on the pregnancy before you get results try instead if you feel different. As spacey as that sounds, a woman can usually tell when her period is approaching. Do you still have that feeling like your period is about the begin? Or maybe you are more susceptible to smells, not overbearing but slightly. Good luck and remember to trust yourself, if are not spotting but having an actual menstrual cycle you know it even if you don't want to. I wish you the best.

When should I go to the hospital for early pregnancy spotting?
Q. I am 11 soon to be 12 weeks pregnant. Last night I started spotting and it has continued on to today. It is very light pinkish brown. Is this normal? Should I go to the emergency room and get it checked out or wait for my appointment in 3 days?

A. i have had both outcomes from spotting during pregnancy. my first pregnancy i started spotting at 12 weeks it was very light and brown. i went to the hospital straight away and they told me it was normal and they were not concerned because i had seen a heartbeat at 8 weeks, and the spotting wasnt heavy, and also my hcg levels were still rising. i wasnt convinced so i made them give me an ultrasound,i turns out i had a missed miscarriage and my baby had died at 9 weeks.
with this pregnancy i had spotting at 5,7,9,11 weeks and everytime i went and got an ultrasound i turned out the baby was healthy and alive.
its really not worth taking the chance when it comes to any type of bleeding or spotting. it can be normal but i would still go and get it checked asap.
good luck and i hope everything ok.

What are symptoms of hysterial pregnancy?

Q. So these are symptoms I don't normally have & am having now:
Sensitive breasts
Lower back pain
Near constant nausea (at times)
Sensitivity to smells
Irregular cramping

Are these all normal? I wanna be preg but know I am not is this like a mild case of hysterical pregnancy?

A. The symptoms of pregnancy and hysterical pregnancy are identical, although hysterical pregnancy symptoms may start sooner. If you're getting the symptoms more than 4 or 5 days before your period is due you can be reasonably certain that they're not legitimate pregnancy symptoms, as it takes that long for your body to even realize it's pregnant and start producing HCG.

What were your symptoms of pregnancy at 5 weeks?
Q. What were your symptoms at 5 weeks. I feel like I'm having a hysterical pregnancy or something. I have taken multiple hpts and they are all positive, and my period is MIA, but I have few other symptoms. No puking, no tender nipples, etc. My actual breasts are sore but no more than if I was PMSing, and I'm emotional. Am I on the right track? Is it too early on for me to be having those other symptoms?

A. None.

How can I tell if my dog is pregnant, at home?
Q. She either has hysterical pregnancy or the real deal. I lately noticed a real pregnancy belly on her and she is acting different. She has all the signs of being pregnant. Any way I can know for sure?

I will go to the vet. But can't go until Monday, unfortunately!

A. Instructions.
1. Pay close attention to your dog's eating habits. If she has a decreased appetite or isn't showing much interest in her favorite chow, this could be a sign of morning sickness.

2.Check for vaginal discharge, a common sign of pregnancy.

3. Notice if your dog has enlarged teats. A female dog's nipples will become engorged in preparation for nursing her pups.

4. Look for behavioral changes in your dog. If she is usually active and appears unusually tired, she may be pregnant. Appearing uncomfortable or signs of general unrest can be tell-tale signs as well.

5. Check your dog's stomach to see if it appears enlarged or swollen. This symptom occurs midway through the pregnancy. You may even be able to gently feel for the puppies as well.

6. Look for signs of "nesting," your dog's way of getting ready for the birth and aftercare of the puppies. She may scratch at the floor or the blankets as if to fluff them.

another one:

Take note of changes in your dog's energy level. The first sign of canine pregnancy is that your dog will want to be left alone more than usual. She will feel really tired and lose interest in playing.

2 Check to see if your dog's nipples are getting bigger. This can be a sign of a real or false pregnancy. Either one needs veterinary attention.

3 Take your dog to your vet. The vet can do a non-invasive test called a "palpitation" when the puppies are 28 days old. An ultrasound would need to be done if the puppies are suspected of being younger than that.

4 Watch for changes in your dog's eating patterns. When the puppies are about one month old, their mother's appetite will become enourmous. Her nipples will also become large and stay large. She should start showing a bump at this time. These are tell-tale signs that puppies are on the way.

5 Watch her behavior as time goes on. When the third month of pregnancy approaches, Mom will look for dark, quiet, warm corners of your home to try and choose a place to make her nest. She might even drag her favorite toys to these places. You'd best make a nest for her and encourage her to go there.

6 Take her temperature as the day gets close. Your dog will usually give birth (whelp) within 24 hours from when her temperature drops to 99 degrees F. (Her normal temperature should be 101 to 102 degrees F.)

So I just took a pregnancy test ten minutes ago and faint positive?
Q. I read it within 3 minutes and it came out with a faint positive. I do not know what to do because i have the implanon in my arm atm and I am convinced that its a hysterical pregnancy. Idk what to do what should I do? Im taking a test tomorrow morning right when i get up would that be better? Any advice would be helpful.

How high does a temperature need to be to be considered a fever during pregnancy?

Q. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and feeling so lousy I thought I might actually be sick. My temperature varies between about 99.2 and 99.7 in degrees Farenheit. I understand that increased progesterone levels can raise body temperature during pregnancy - how high does it need to go before I should worry?
My doctor's office is closed right now - but I'll call tomorrow morning.

Thank you for the answers. If it is at least 100 or 100.6, it sounds like I'm in the clear.

A. well it depends what ur dr says but usually over 100 u should call them

Is it normal to have fevers weekly during pregnancy?
Q. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and I've been getting fevers weekly during my pregnancy the doctor says my baby's healthy I'm just wondering if it's normal and safe to almost daily have a mild fever and sometimes a low high fever

A. A fever is a sign that your body is fighting to keep itself healthy. I'm sure baby is fine but my biggest concern is why are you continuing to run fevers. I would talk again with your doctor and ask that he address further what is going on.

How to treat a urinary tract infection during pregnancy?
Q. My friend in Europe was told by her doctor to take medicine for urinary tract infection and, when I look at this medicine description in English, I see it is contraindicated during pregnancy. Doctor has tried to scare her into taking the medicine, saying such infection could very possibly go to her kidneys and cause terrible troubles. But if a medicine is worse than the disease, what can be done?!

Please, if anyone knows effective and safe treatment for this ailment during pregnancy, do share! Thank you.

A. If you get a UTI during pregnancy, you need to go to your doctor, and take the antibiotics they prescribe you to clear it up. there really is no other way of getting rid of it. you can drink some cranberry juice to help. but that isn't going to take it away. the antibiotics won't hurt your baby. the doctor will prescribe some thing that is safe for use during pregnancy. woman get bladder/ UTI infections all the time during their pregnancy, and they take the medicine. the truth is, that its more dangerous to leave the infection untreated. believe me i know. i had a bladder infection once, and i didn't get it treated for a while, and then it spread to my kidneys, causing a bad kidney infection. it was so terrible. i got so sick. had a severely high fever. I went to the er, and i had to be hospitalized for a couple days. your friend shouldn't put her baby at risk. if she leaves this untreated and it spreads to her kidneys, which it most likely will, then it could risk hurting her baby. tell her to listen to her doctor.

good luck.

How does the body change during pregnancy?
Q. What changes occur in the appearance of the woman? And where does the weight normally go to? Do some women only gain in their belly area? I would think that a woman who is in good shape and continues to eat right during pregnancy would only get a belly, and not much more fat. Is this correct? I'm worrying about the shape of my body being different after baby because somebody told me, you can lose the weight but never get your shape back because it's different after the baby. Is this always true?

A. Pregnancy is a natural state and one that is different for every woman every time. I have had three pregnancies and deliveries and they were all different. You never know exactly what you¡¦re going to get, but it does help to be prepared by knowing what changes your body will likely go through. Follow the changes your body goes through trimester by trimester. You can expect to feel all or some of them.

The first trimester (Week 1 - Week 12)

h Cessation of menstrual period

h Morning sickness that occurs at any time, day or night, or all day and night. This includes nausea and/or vomiting

h Excessive saliva

h Swollen and tender breasts

h Darkening of the areola

h Frequent urination

h Fatigue

h Constipation

h Heartburn

h Mood swings -- feel angry, sad, or happy for no reason

h Stuffy nose and allergies¡Xeven if you have never suffered from them before

h Food cravings

The second trimester (Week 13 - Week 26)

h Weight gain and thickening of the waist

h Fetal movement

h Dry skin on stomach where the skin is stretching

h Breasts increase in size¡Xtime for new bras

h Hemorrhoids

h Heartburn

h Indigestion

h Constipation

h Nosebleeds

h Slight swelling of the feet, hands, ankles and face

h Development of a dark line on the skin between your navel and your pubic area.

h Development of a "mask" or darker area on your face

h Backaches that can remain throughout pregnancy

h Nipple secretions

h Muscle cramps, particularly in the legs and at night

h Gas pains

h Changes in your hair: it can become less oily

h Skin problems

The third trimester (Week 27 - 40)

h Increased fetal movement

h Protrusion of navel

h Increased backaches

h Shortness of breath

h Braxton Hicks contractions AKA false labor

h Groin pains

h Stretch marks

h Difficulty sleeping

h Varicose veins

Your entire system is readjusted when you¡¦re pregnant. The heart pumps more blood and the lungs work more efficiently, as does the digestive system. With these and more changes occurring, it is no wonder that pregnancy can be uncomfortable. Minor aches and pains can be dealt with; however, you should never ignore pain or extreme fatigue, which can be warning signs of trouble. Always consult your health care provider if you experience any of these changes:

h pain or burning during urination

h vaginal spotting or bleeding

h leaking or gushing from vagina

h blister or sore in vaginal area

h uterine contractions

h severe nausea or vomiting

h severe abdominal pain

h chills and fever over 100 degrees

h dizziness or lightheadedness

h severe headache

h swelling of the face, eyes, fingers or toes

h sudden weight gain

h visual problems

h noticeably reduced fetal movement

h absence of fetal movement for 24 hours

h a hot, reddened painful area behind your knee or calf

And just when you think you can¡¦t take it another day¡Xta da! ¡Xthe biggest changes of all: labor and delivery!

If your cervix is closed during pregnancy, why do some have leukhorrea?

Q. I've read a lot that the cervix is supposed to remain firm and closed during pregnancy. If that's true, then why do some women have extra vaginal discharge, such as leukhorrea, when pregnant if their cervix is closed?

A. it isn't the cervix that produces the discharge, its the vagina itself.the vagina is self cleaning (the discharge is the way it does it).an increase in discharge while pregnant is completely normal

leukorrhea is a different thing - it can be a sign of infection and this should always be investigated

Is there anything they can do about a torn cervix during pregnancy?
Q. The first doctor I went to tore my cervix and it has bled during my whole pregnancy. Is there anything they can do for it until I have the baby? I am about 5 months pregnant now and it just gets annoying bleeding off and on.

A. I would certainly be looking into doing something legal about this Doctor that tore your cervix. I have had 2 children, and nor have I ever even heard that a Doctor could tear your cervix.

Ask them to stitch your cervix. That is about the only option you have.
